ABOUT

Grace Shih is a Taiwanese recorder performer and teacher based in London. Having recently completed her master’s degree at the Royal Academy of Music with Distinction, where she studied with Pamela Thorby and Anna Stegmann, Grace is now establishing herself as a soloist and ensemble player in Europe. Recent highlights include Bach cantatas with Phillipe Hereweghe and Trevor Pinnock, as well as recitals for the London International Festival of Early Music.

 

Grace has been a member of Parandrus Consort since March 2019, with which she won first prize in the prestigious Nancy Nuttall Early Music Prize at the Royal Academy of Music. As an ensemble specialising in exploring the music of the late medieval and renaissance periods, Parandrus has made its appearances in music festivals across the UK and Europe.

 

Grace began her recorder studies with Yuan-chuan Huang in Taiwan in 2014. In the following year, she won first prize of National Student Competition of Music in Taiwan. Grace moved to London in 2016 to pursue musical inspirations and received tuition from Michael Form, Maurice Steger, Jeremias Schwarzer, Han Tol and other recorder/historical performance specialists.
